Capstone Bank wants to make you aware of daily things you can do to protect yourself from ID Theft. Please take a moment to read this information. This page is meant to inform you, our valued customer, of some of the ways in which you can protect yourself from FRAUD and/or IDENTITY THEFT.

Our Promise

Capstone Bank will NEVER request confidential information such as your account number or Social Security number through email, text or phone. This tactic is commonly called "phishing" and is a process that criminals use to gain access to your account.  If you receive a suspicious email, text or phone call requesting your personal or account information, please contact us immediately.  If we need to update such information about you we will contact you through more secure methods.

Customers that receive suspicious email, text or phone call are asked to contact your local Capstone Branch Office or email us at fraud@capstonebankal.com.

Protect Yourself

Here are some tips that you can use to minimize your risk of identity theft or account fraud:

  • Become a Capstone Bank Internet Banking customer. By monitoring your accounts periodically you are more likely to find fraudulent activity when it happens, thereby enabling you to report the fraudulent activity sooner and subsequently STOP further fraudulent activity.
  • Before throwing them away, tear up financial solicitations you receive in the mail--do the same for any other financial statements, invoices, or ATM receipts you wish to discard.
  • Should you be one of the millions of consumers conducting business online, you should arm your computer with VIRUS protection and firewall software.
  • Use different complex passwords for different accounts. At a minimum make your passwords alphanumeric (containing letters and numbers).
  • Don’t give out your checking account, credit card, or Social Security number over the phone unless you initiate the call and know who you’re dealing with.
  • Guard your ATM Personal Identification number (PIN) and ATM receipts.
  • Periodically contact the major credit bureaus to review your file and be sure the information is correct. For a small fee, you can obtain a copy of your credit report at any time. The three major credit bureaus are: Equifax (800) 685-1111; Experian (888) 397-3742; and TransUnion (800) 916-8800.
